2 Minutes - 2 Times per Day!

The American Dental Association recommends brushing your teeth for at least 2 minutes, 2 times per day to establish good oral hygiene. Most dental appointments are typically routine, 2 times each year to have your teeth cleaned by a hygienist and your oral health evaluated by a doctor of dental medicine. For some folks, however, dental anxiety makes the process a serious ordeal. Luckily, modern dentistry has advanced exponentially over the years, so today your visit to our state-of-the-art office can ultimately have a much more positive outcome!

In general, fear of going to the dentist can be grouped into two general categories: Dental Anxiety and Dental Phobia. Dental anxiety is when people have a normal level of concern about visiting the dentist. This can be related to fear of pain, a prior bad experience, or even someone’s personal worry about anesthetic procedures. Dental phobia occurs when these anxieties increase to a level that makes it difficult for people to function. Phobia of the dentist may prevent individuals from taking care of their teeth.

These worries certainly reflect valid concerns. One of the best ways to overcome dental fear is to be well informed and knowledgable about your options. At Grove Dental, we believe our patients have the right to know as much information as possible about their oral health, as well as what any recommended procedure entails. We have found that when our patients learn as much as possible about their options, they build a trusting relationship with their dentist. Many times this alone can help to ease your fears.

One of the exciting new features we offer at our new location is Nitrous Oxide (also called “laughing gas”) which is a safe and effective sedative agent that can help make you more comfortable during certain procedures. Nitrous Oxide is not intended to put you to sleep, as you will be able to hear and respond to any requests or directions the dentist may have. Your dentist will ask you to breathe normally through your nose, and within a few short minutes you should start to feel the effects of the nitrous oxide, ultimately helping you to feel calm and comfortable. If you think this option would be a good fit for you, ask your dentist about it at your next appointment.

Don't forget, February is National Children's Dental Health Month! If your child has teeth, it's time to start instilling good habits of brushing for at least 2 minutes, 2 times per day, and visiting the dentist at least 2 times per year!
